The Happiness Jar Project

This is my favourite time of year. I love that the year is ending and a new one full of surprises, adventure and possibilities is beginning.
A couple of years ago I started a tradition of a Happiness Jar. It’s such a simple concept. Every day I write down what made me happy that day on a scrap of paper and it goes into the Happiness Jar. Then on New Year’s Eve (or on any day you need a pick me up) you empty the jar and read all the happy scraps.
The Happiness Jar is a tool to encourage you to look for happiness in your everyday life, even on the days where you think life is crappy and everything has gone wrong, you can always find something, even if it’s something tiny that made you happy that day. According to neuroscience this kind of attention to happy memories also grows happiness related pathways in the brain
The jars are super easy to make. You can use anything you want. I use a mason jar which cost me under 5 bucks and tied a ribbon around the lid. You can use an old jam or sauce jar though if you don’t want to buy one. There are also loads of great ideas for decoration on Pinterest.
This New Year’s Eve I will be emptying my 2016 Happiness Jar (I might even snap a few on snapchat) and then starting a new one for 2017.
I hope you guys love this practice as much as I do. Let me know if you start your own happiness jars, I would love to see some pictures of your creations.
