Be Bold For Change

Today is International Women's Day and the theme of this year is 'Be Bold For Change'.

I was lucky enough to attend the International Women's Day breakfast yesterday morning hosted by the United Nations Women's National Committee Australia in Perth Convention Centre. All the women who spoke were inspirational and empowering but what struck me most was the audience. There was women and men of all ages and races, all with a common purpose to bridge the gap and make gender equality for all happen. There is a very special vibe in a room when people from all walks of life come together for a common purpose and the energy in that room yesterday was electric.

Being fortunate enough to be born in Ireland and live in Australia gender equality does not really factor into my everyday life in a major way. Sure there may be an evident pay gap but largely I am unaware that there is any difference between myself and my partner apart from anatomically.

However, this is not the case for women all over the world. Some women have radically different lives than me based on their gender and we are fellow humans need to rise up and help them to live with the same basic rights that we have.

I encourage you to find out what you can do in your locality to help women across the world attain gender equality so that they can live in a safer world.

Happy International Women's Day.

Aisling
