Thought for the week - Redefining Success

I have been thinking a lot recently about what success means to me and how I define success in my own life.

In my twenties, my priorities were being popular and being the centre of my social circle. I was a social butterfly sometimes even to the detriment to my physical and mental health. At that time success to me was defined by how awesome I could make my nights out. Mostly it was enjoyable at the time but I always felt like deep down I was really missing out on something.

In my mid-twenties, I went through a personal trauma, my father got very ill and passed away. At first, I went off the rails but ultimately it led to me redefine my priorities in life and making massive changes.

Ever since then I have been constantly thinking about what I want out of this short life that we have here on earth.

As I grow and learn my priorities continuously change. On my journey to where I am today I measured success by how positive my mind-set was, setting and smashing goals and getting comfortable in my own skin.

Now in my (almost) mid-thirties I continue changing and evolving and thinking about that I need to do in order to meet my expectations of success.

At my stage in life finances and property is usually one of the major measures of success in people’s lives. Money has never really been a huge motivator to me. Don’t get me wrong I like having nice things and being comfortable means a lot to me but it doesn’t necessarily make me feel like I am successful in life.

What really makes me excited is making an impact on people’s lives. I want to be able to use my life experiences to enhance someone else’s. Whether that is one person or one thousand people I would consider my life to be successful if I changed someone’s life for the better.

How do you define success in your life?

Aisling
